Laying the Foundation...
Staff are trickling back in or have already arrived.
You've begun your "check-in" and "welcome back" one-on-one meetings.
And now, it's time to meet with all staff to set the tone for the year, starting with norms and expectations.
Setting the tone for how we, the adults, get to "BE" with each other.
I know, I know, I know… I can already feel the resistance.
"I mean, really!"
"We're all adults here; stop treating us like children!"
"We know how to act."
Does this sound or feel familiar?
If it does, it's all the more reason to stop and have the conversation.
BECAUSE…
Highly effective teams understand and value conversations around norms and agreements regarding staff interactions.
In fact, highly effective teams
Purposely stop and revisit the norms and agreements at the beginning of each year and then regularly throughout the year.
Use the time to reconnect with existing staff, revisit what worked for them, and discuss what they might want to tweak for the coming year. They also connect with new staff to set up brand-new norms and agreements.
