When Everyone Agrees — But Nothing Moves
Over the past two weeks, we’ve focused on:
Direction and shared goals.
And for many teams, that already creates a noticeable shift.
There’s more clarity.
More alignment.
Less scattered effort.
And yet…
Some teams still feel stuck.
Not because they disagree. But because they don’t know how decisions are made.
Clarity Without Decision-Making Still Stalls
You can have a clear priority.
You can even have shared goals.
And still hear:
“I thought we decided that already.”
“I wasn’t sure who was supposed to make that call.”
“We talked about it… but nothing changed.”
This isn’t a communication issue. It’s a decision-making issue.
Because alignment doesn’t move work forward — decisions do.
Collaborative Doesn’t Mean Everyone Decides Everything
In early childhood settings, collaboration is highly valued. And it should be.
But collaboration without clarity can create hesitation:
People wait instead of acting
Conversations repeat without resolution
Ownership becomes unclear
Over time, this slows progress — especially right now, when time is limited.
Collaborative decision-making is not about everyone deciding everything. It’s about being clear on:
Who contributes input
Who makes the decision
How decisions move into action
When Decision-Making Is Clear, Teams Move
When teams understand how decisions happen:
Conversations become more focused.
Follow-through becomes more consistent.
Momentum builds more naturally.
Not because there are more meetings. But because decisions don’t get stuck inside them.
Decision-Making Lives Across Me–Core–Big
Like everything else, this is about alignment:
Me (Personal Leadership)
Do I step into decisions when needed — or avoid them?
Do I over-control decisions — or create confusion by stepping back too far?
Core (Team Practice)
Do we know how decisions are made — or do we revisit the same conversations repeatedly?
Are roles in decision-making clear during discussions?
Big (Systems & Structures)
Are there clear expectations for decision-making — or does it depend on the situation?
Do structures support timely decisions — or slow them down?
When this isn’t clear, even strong teams lose momentum.
This Week, Pause and Ask
Do we know how decisions are made on our team — or do we figure it out each time?
Where are decisions currently getting stuck?
What is one decision we can move forward more clearly this week?
Direction creates focus.
Shared goals create alignment.
Decision-making creates movement.
👉 If your team is aligned on goals but still getting stuck in follow-through, decision-making clarity is often the missing piece.
I created a Decision-Making Toolkit for ECE Teams to help you:
Clarify roles in decision-making
Streamline team discussions
Move from conversation to action more consistently
