Here's the trick...
Some of us have a vision, and some of us have a VISION. What’s the difference?
Remember the experiment I talked about last week? Well, the questions I asked that volunteer clarified her vision and made it compelling to the rest of the group.
After just five minutes, most people said they would go and work for her in a hot minute!!
So, how do you craft a vision like that? Here is an exercise to get you started:
Take a few minutes and brainstorm a list of 8-10 “wants”. Then, go back and ask yourself why you want each item.
When you’re finished, what do you notice? Were there any trends or common themes? If not, continue to brainstorm. If so, great! You now have the draft of your vision!
Next, take your draft and take it through a quick “test” by asking yourself:
* Do I go to bed thinking about it or dream about it at night?
* Is it the first thing I think about when I wake up?
* Does it motivate me to take on the world?
* Does it allow me to ignore the critics (especially my own inner critic)?
* Does it invite others to join me?
Now, this exercise might take a bit of time or feel daunting. Yet, it’s worth it!!
Remember… having a solid vision supports your program by fostering a sense of belonging and community. And if the vision is compelling, it’s like super octane gas in everyone’s tank. It will fuel everyone and keep staff motivated like the energizer bunny!
Having said that, I know you might need more support, so I am offering a free one-hour masterclass on Wednesday, January 31st, at 4 pm EST/ 3 pm CST/ 2 pm MST/ 1 pm PST.
The masterclass will be limited to the first 50 people, so click here to reserve your space.
