I changed my seat on the plane...
Over the last several months, more and more people have been asking for support with their staffing teams. This has led to a heavy travel schedule, with even more travel to come.
While I love in-person training, I've been torn because I know programs desperately need help, yet I was beginning to get burned out.
Until I made one small change…
I changed my seat on the plane! I went from sitting in an aisle seat to sitting next to the window.
Now, I didn't have to worry about moving for people to go to the bathroom, and I stopped having to adjust for the snack and drinks cart.
Not only did I have more space, but it also helped me adjust my thinking, which led me to stop working on the plane.
Instead, I bring my favorite snacks and give myself permission to binge on movies, catch up on my favorite books, or occasionally chat with the person next to me.
Now, I view my travel time as "me" time—a time to rest, relax, and get restored. This new viewpoint has changed everything for me as I arrive rested and ready to go.
So, what's the moral of this story?
We often think caring for ourselves requires "big" or expensive activities such as going to the spa or taking a vacation. Yet, little, tiny adjustments are often easier to implement and can give us a big "bang" for our money.
And this is where highly effective teams live. In the tiny adjustments.
It might mean taking three big breaths each time they walk down the hall. Or adding yoga poses to the movement exercises they do with the children.
It might mean adding an orange slice or some raspberries to their water bottle or placing a pretty vase with a few fresh flowers on their desk.
Highly effective teams understand the power of small moments in time and use them to rejuvenate.
So here's my challenge for you… brainstorm a few moments during the day that can "power you up," and then let me know so we can add to the list.
